Reading Portion: 1 Kings 21

When we read 1 Kings, we see one more instance when Elijah is present in the scenario. It was the talk with King Ahab. With Jezebel’s help, Ahab made crooked plans and they killed Naboth, to own his land. Their conversation went like this, “So Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, O my enemy?”” 1 Kings 21:20. Ahab addressed Elijah as his enemy. He couldn’t understand why Elijah was so zealous. As Paul says in 2 Corinthians 4:4, “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” Ahab was blinded by the ungodly/pagan practices, that he couldn’t see the works of the LORD. Their conversation was not on a good tone, but Elijah spoke about the anger of GOD. GOD had shown His mercy many times so that Ahab could repent and turn to GOD, but because he refused to take the path of righteousness, the prophetic word became so powerful and pierced him like a sword.

Elijah came out from the wilderness as a different man- with a renewed spirit, greater valor and more courage. If you are going through the toughest times of your life and you feel like quitting, wait upon the LORD; spend time in prayer so that He will fill you with His courage.

When Elijah conveyed the powerful prophecy, Ahab repented. “When Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his body, and fasted and lay in sackcloth, and went about mourning.” 1 Kings 21:27. Even if we have gone too far from GOD, if we have a heart to repent, GOD will show mercy upon us. His mercy endures forever. But there will be a judgment for every minute thing we have done in our lives. When GOD sends people to correct our lives, don’t turn our back on them. Heed to them and turn to GOD. His love is everlasting such that He will lead us in perfect peace.
