James 4:4-6
Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” (Vs. 4-6)

“Adulterers and adulteresses” is a rebuke that we see in the Old Testament. God spoke like this when His people leave Him and go after the pagan gods. When we love anything more than God, which is considered as idolatry. “Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.” Colossians 3:5.

Covetousness and the love to the world is idolatry in the eyes of the LORD. God wants us to be loyal to Him. Being loyal means showing undivided, strong, and constant support or allegiance to a person. The priorities we maintain with God shows the bond that we have with GOD. We can identify a friend of GOD in his ways. He asks, seeks, and move according to the will of GOD. Being a friend of the world, one has no boundaries of holiness. For them, the boundaries of holiness seem futile and they mock people who travel in the path of holiness. “Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” (NASB). If one has a slight desire to befriend the world, he has drifted from the friendship of GOD. As we saw before, GOD wants us to be loyal in our ways.
