James 4:13-16
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. (Vs. 13-16)

James rebukes the generation who depends on their knowledge to plans things out as they neglect the moving/helping hand of GOD. Dependency on GOD helps us to evaluate our limitations and acknowledging the fact that His plans are perfect above the plans that we have set for our lives. The plans are made to satisfy the earthly desires and we plan without considering the will of GOD. Though we are unsure about our tomorrows, we plan things out making no room to think about the desires of His heart and making Him irrelevant in our lives.

But, what if the plans go off? The things we boast about, the things we make as goals may get destroyed all of a sudden, and or plans may fade away. GOD wants us to realize the limitation of human life and to submit to His plans. Submitting to His plans doesn’t mean we have given up, but, it means GOD has taken control of your life. Submission-giving away your control so that He takes the lead.

The words of dependency on the LORD are always humble and has not a single tone of arrogance. Boasting arrogance, the sin of Lucifer, can take hold of a Christian’s life if they do not submit to the will of GOD. Be watchful against the plans of the enemy. Drifting from dependency to independency can happen gradually and we may not be able to identify the same if we don’t check our daily life with the standards of the word of GOD.
