TAME THE WEAK
-Lediya Jacob
The venture of “nullness” carved both in the Old and New Testaments is the full canon of the Scripture revealing its high potency. The nullity resembles the weak, foolish, lowly, and despised things. “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things- and the things that are not- to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him.”- I Corinthians: 1. 27-29. It is the immeasurable love of God to mankind which passes all the knowledge and weaknesses.
A very noteworthy observation by John Charles Ryle is, “Weak, feeble and foolish as it may seem to people, the simple story of the Cross is enough for all mankind in every part of the globe.” The consecration of the bread and wine is the imagery demonstration of Jesus Christ at the Cross. The bread is prepared from the ‘monocot plants’ wheat or barley which are considered to be the staple food. But the Scripture elevates it into the body of Jesus Christ.
As the first of the signs through which Jesus revealed His glory was by turning water into wine in Cana of Galilee. The master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine and said to the bridegroom “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have too much to drink, but you have saved the best till now.”-John: 2. 10. And as the last of signs, He offered Himself at the Cross. “One of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.”-John: 19. 34. The best choice wine saved for the last atoning the mankind and redeeming Him from the sins through His Blood and finally imparting life through the water.
“Therefore, thus says the LORD God, ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.”-Isaiah: 28. 16. The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. It is in the proximity of billion rejections, there feels the integral soft touch on the weak shoulders by the warm hands. The touch creating a step ladder to walk into heights. Jesus says, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I’ve spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”-John: 15. 1-6. Dope us with the true vine to image the sample of a pruned branch bearing good fruit. Pruning is a painful, time-consuming, and exhausting process, but it is an exodus for the higher calling actuating the weak and the foolish to custom shape mankind for His Kingdom. “Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer, hyraxes are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags; locusts have no king, yet they advance together in ranks; a lizard can be caught with the hand, yet it is found in kings’ palaces.”-Proverbs: 30. 24-28. When the world thrust away the weak with a rejecting taunt, Heaven ordains it with gold.
My dear brethren in Christ, feel the strengthening righteous right hand of Jesus Christ which touches the weary shoulders to make us perfect in weakness. Come, let’s strive with reverence to tame the weak and sing that “The LORD protects the unwary when I was brought low, He saved me.”-Psalms: 116. 6.
