Is the church a wholesale center to grab all the ‘spiritual food for a week? Though we need spiritual food to lead a victorious Christian life, don’t we need it every day and every moment of our lives? Do we mug up material food for a week together? We can’t even store up food in our tummy for even a day! I felt that the Churches have put the believers on a ‘spiritual diet.’ The mentioned scenario also creates another level of dependency on the pastors and the teachers rather than relying daily on the Holy Scriptures and God. This, in turn, creates a celebrity figure for the church leaders- heeding to everything they preach rather than checking the scriptures as the Bereans did. Spiritual maturity is when we understand the fact that we need to depend more on God rather than having an independent life. Preachers must take this phrase out from their sermons cause this is indirectly creating a notion in the mind of the new believers not to have a personal time alone and along with God. “But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you” (Matthew 6:6). This verse clearly shows the importance of having personal time with God. Do not wait for the Sunday to get ‘charged’ to lead a victorious Christian life, instead stay connected to the power source in Bible reading, meditation, and prayer!
