Prophecies play a ‘vital’ role in the life of believers. For anything and everything, they need ‘guidance’ from God. The believers started depending on prophecies rather than following true guidance from the LORD through the Word of God. I’m not against prophecies, but, many of these prophecies are materialistic or makes the listener ‘feel-good’ about their ‘future.’ All prophecies are never ‘God-inspired.’ Speaking the desires of our heart, saying common factors of life, adding phrases like- “Thus says the LORD” will never make a prophecy divine. These have created another level of self-dependency and are similar to the motivational talks by secular gurus. Prophecies should make us look into ourselves, analyze life in light of the Scriptures, and assist us in repentance and for leading a holy life. Also, over dependency on ‘prophets’ causes a lack of personal time with God and to listen to His voice. Yes! He speaks to us as well; not just to the prophets alone! Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1
