Devotional Portion: Psalms 9:19-20
Arise, O Lord, Do not let man prevail; Let the nations be judged in Your sight. Put them in fear, O Lord, That the nations may know themselves to be but men.
Arise, O Lord, Do not let man prevail;
As David concludes his prayer, he is submitting a petition before God, let no man prevail. We see a similarity between the Lord’s Prayer and this, “Thy will be done.” When man prevails, his futility prevails. When His will is done, His perfect harmony dwells on the earth. When man prevails, they try to impart fear of dominance, but when He rules, He leads us as His sheep. When man prevails, enmity increases, but when God leads, His perfect peace goes before us. Man must adore, submit, and worship the Lord and the Creator. Let all men remember that they are mere dust.
Let the nations be judged in Your sight. Put them in fear, O Lord, That the nations may know themselves to be but men.
David is confident in God as he is innocent and he is praising God as He brought judgement upon the wicked. The presence of the LORD is a place of humility, let them be put to fear- reverence to the Lord. And man must know their helplessness when they are without God.
As we conclude Psalm 9, we must remember that as Christian, we are called to praise God and to proclaim His goodness to the ends of this world.
Reflection: May we have prayer all the time, let not man prevail.
