Devotional Portion: ‭‭Psalm ‭11:6‬-7

Upon the wicked He will rain coals; Fire and brimstone and a burning wind Shall be the portion of their cup. For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.

The psalmist quoted in the previous verse, “But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.” If GOD hates the wicked and the one who advises violence, then the man of God has nothing to fear. Even if the whole world is supporting the wicked, his world will go in vain. God hates them! God was against the plans of Haman and he fell into his trap. God hated Sodom and Gomorrah for their wickedness and are perished. Getting acceptance in the community or the crowd will never make your foundation strong. We need Him by our side, and that’s why the upright will stand strong even if the whole system is against them.

The Lord will bring judgement on the wicked. The wrath of God will be a portion in their cups- they taste it eternally in the fiery hell.

There is a delightful contrast in the final verse of this psalm. This verse explains the hope of the upright and why we should hold on to the Lord.

  1. The Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness: He defends the upright as He is righteous. Righteousness is one of the communicable attributes of God too. He will condemn the guilty and vindicate or justify the righteous.
  2. His countenance beholds the upright: His face shines upon His people and God’s people will see Him. “He observes, he approves, he delights in the upright. He sees his own image in them, an image of his fashioning, and therefore with complacency he regards them.” (Treasury of David, Charles Spurgeon).

When the enemy prompts us to “flee as a bird to your mountains,” remember that “resist him, and he will flee from you.”

Reflection: The Lord watches over us, His eyes behold us, and His everlasting arms are beneath us to sustain us.
