Devotional Portion: Psalm 15:4

In whose eyes a vile person is despised, But he honors those who fear the Lord; He who swears to his own hurt and does not change;

As the psalms progress, David changes to a different dimension for the quality. He is explaining the idea of separation from worldliness and integrity in life. Proverbs 8:13, “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil.” Purity in life is attained as we know the standards of the Lord. Keeping away from a vile person needs discernment and a strong heart to make that decision as well.

“We must be as honest in paying respect as in paying our bills. Honour to whom honour is due. To all good men we owe a debt of honour, and we have no right to hand over what is theirs due to vile persons who happen to be in high places.” Charles Spurgeon.

He who swears to his own hurt and does not change;

This means keeping promises even when it is no longer to his/her advantage to do so. In an era of selfishness and self-centeredness, a man of God must be with a character of sacrifice and unfathomable love.

Reflection: Keep integrity to God, despise evil and fear the Lord.
