Devotional Portion: Psalms 10:16-18
The Lord is King forever and ever; The nations have perished out of His land. Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear, To do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, That the man of the earth may oppress no more.
Though the psalmist submitted all his concerns and petition through this psalm, as he concludes, he does it with great confidence in the LORD. The Lord is King forever, and He is eternal. His ways at beyond comprehension and He is sovereign.
You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear,
The Lord will not abandon His children, but He will help and bless them. “The ‘humble’ and lowly, whatever they may suffer in the world, are the favourites of Jehovah: that He attends to the very ‘desires’ of their hearts: that such hearts ‘prepared’ to prayer, are so many instruments strung and tuned by the hand of heaven.” (Horne)
The Lord prepares the heart of the humble and hears their cries. A prepared heart is essential to accept the plans of the LORD and to never murmur. His ways will be perfect and the assurance must fill in the heart of the humble.
To do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, That the man of the earth may oppress no more.
The psalmist is giving a reminder to the wicked and the humble- they are mere men of the earth. Or in other words, everyone must understand the fact that they are all mortals, who are made of the dust and must return to it. But, the LORD is eternal and He takes care of the humble and the lowly. He is the ever-present help in the days of trouble.
Reflection: Be humble always. His mercy sustains us.
