At some point or another we all have struggled pleasing people and many still are! The bottom line is we tend to confuse kindness with pleasing people. Impressing people when becomes a voluntary habit, eventually moulds us into a person with more of this world and less or nothing of God. Express your love and concerns to others, love your neighbour, have compassion towards the needy (Colossians 3:12). That’s what even Jesus showed through His life on earth. There wasn’t a single incident where He was reluctant to a needy nor a single moment where He did anything to impress people.

The times when we decide to impress humans and not God, we actually sin! In Genesis, when Adam chooses to impress his wife over God’s word, sin enters Eden and the consequences are not at all good (Genesis 3:17). Not only did it affect his bond with the Maker but also with his wife! What matters is not the duration of life on this earth, but the duration in eternity. So be sure of how wisely we invest our times.

Know that a cross isn’t just a ray, a cross actually has a ray up and a line horizontally. Horizontal line is important as it affects the vertical ray which is our relationship with God. Don’t confuse them, honour and obey our God and be loving to one another. The best part is we actually impress God when we carry each other’s burden. (Galatians 6:2).

Hence, be mindful of whom we impress today!
