Devotional Portion: Psalm 7:1-2

This is a song sung by David unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite (2 Samuel 16:5-14). The Psalm contains David’s cry to GOD and shout of confidence in GOD’s deliverance.

O Lord my God, in You I put my trust; Save me from all those who persecute me; And deliver me,
Lest they tear me like a lion, Rending me in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

When David was in this tough situation of his life, all he did was to put his trust in GOD alone. He ran to His presence where he could sense the protecting hand of GOD moving amidst the trials of his life and that’s why David was called as the man after GOD’s heart. Thus he could say in 2 Samuel 15:10, “So let him curse, because the LORD has said to him, ‘Curse David.’ Who then shall say, ‘Why have you done so?’ ”” He was confident in GOD that nothing in his life happened without GOD’s knowledge. A man of GOD is one who has confidence in the Creator no matter what happens as he is deeply rooted in GOD rather than in the heat of the situations.

David’s confidence in GOD is reflected in his prayer as well. “O Lord my God, in You I put my trust.” He puts GOD before all his problems, and sees it through God who holds his hands and makes the way right for him. We fret as we look at the problems rather than running to GOD for refuge. Problems are not the catalysts to trigger your relationship with GOD; instead let your love for GOD be the only reason. Most of the time, we seek GOD and His face when we have no other option. But we must take a decision today to seek GOD more each moment of our lives – whether we are on the throne or whether we face Shimei in our lives.

As the prayer advances, he opens up about the trials he is facing. He asks for deliverance from his enemies and he submits himself before GOD as he is sure that none around him can deliver him. Though people are with him, they might have disbelief and doubts about GOD because David had to flee from the throne that was given to him by the LORD. Though there may be none to give us mental support, trust GOD. David cried in the presence of GOD. Having an army or friends around us will never let us win the spiritual battle – it’s a battle to have a stronger relationship with GOD. People fail in this phase as they seek counsel from others rather than spending time alone with GOD. Just as Jacob wrestled with the angel of GOD at the ford of Jabbok (Genesis 32:22-31), we need to have a personal time with GOD. Our Pastor always quotes, “Prayer is the greatest powerhouse a believer has!” Yes! Prayer is the powerhouse where a Christian gets his strength to face the days ahead. It’s the place where they get direction from GOD to take a step and it’s the place where GOD shares His immense peace.

Reflection: Are we able to see GOD above our problems? Seek more of Him in every season of our lives.
