The definition of a spiritual person and a backslider is given accordingly by the ‘ways’, ‘works’, and ‘behaviour’ of the people who are under consideration! The one who comes late to the church, wearing a t-shirt, who doesn’t ‘assist’ in any of the ‘limelight’ things, rather staying behind the scenes in silence is considered a ‘backslider.’ Whereas the one who sings, helps in the church setups, clapping hands rigorously, having a smile always, etc., is considered as a ‘spiritual’ man. The exterior appearances can be deceptive and the one we considered as spiritual might be the carnal person and vice-versa. We look from the outside whereas God sees the heart and knows our thoughts from afar. Being ‘active’ in the church is not a sign of spirituality. We make conclusions based on how we perceive things and we can be wrong as we are not discerning people. Never judge or make conclusions about someone based on how they are in the church, the one whom we considered as a backslider might be the person who has a strong relationship with God. “Who are you to judge another’s the servant? To his own master, he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.” Romans 14:4.
