Devotional Portion: Psalms 9:6-8
O enemy, destructions are finished forever! And you have destroyed cities; Even their memory has perished. But the Lord shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment. He shall judge the world in righteousness, And He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.
O enemy, destructions are finished forever!
David is now speaking to the one whom God has defeated for David. He is so sure in the work of God that their evil work of destruction ends in futility.
“The metaphor of a judgment-seat is exchanged for a triumphant description of the destructions fallen on the land of the enemy, in all which God alone is recognised as the actor.” (Maclaren)
But the Lord shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment. He shall judge the world in righteousness,
David was humbling before the Lord as He is sovereign and He is eternal. The defeat of the enemy must not bring in pride to us to make us boast in ourselves or our might. The greatest enemy of us is death and we’ll overcome it when we become like Him.
God has prepared a judgement for everyone, and He will bring everything to that judgement seat in the final days. Let our hands be strong enough to stand before Him.
And He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.
David looked forward to the ultimate rule of God over all nations. Apostle Paul in Acts 17:31 says, ”He shall judge the world in righteousness.”
We must always look for and see the second coming of Jesus Christ and we must keep our lives pure from all worldly impurities as He is the righteous judge and will bring everything for judgement.
Reflection: Let’s gaze upon the works of the LORD and lead a pure life before Him.
