Devotional Portion: ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭9:3-5‬

When my enemies turn back, They shall fall and perish at Your presence. For You have maintained my right and my cause; You sat on the throne judging in righteousness. You have rebuked the nations, You have destroyed the wicked; You have blotted out their name forever and ever.

When my enemies turn back, They shall fall and perish at Your presence.

In the previous verses, David praises God for general reasons. In these verses, David is pointing to a specific reason for his praise- the Most High defeated his enemies. The presence of God made the enemies fall. When we praise God, praise Him for who He is and how He has worked in our lives.

For You have maintained my right and my cause;

God defended David not just because He is powerful, but He defended David on the principle of right and wrong.

God is a righteous judge. When we say God is by our side, we are confirming ourselves to that word of God. And on the other hand, if we expect God to fight for us, we must have a clear heart and a mind that is after righteousness.

You sat on the throne judging in righteousness. You have rebuked the nations, You have destroyed the wicked; You have blotted out their name forever and ever.

The righteous work of God is elaborated here. He sat on the throne- He heard the cry of the righteous and the pride of the nations. Then He made the judgement- destroying the wicked and blotting their name off forever.

David was justified in the present situation, he saw the enemies being destroyed.

Reflection: When we pray for judgement upon the enemies, check whether we are walking in God’s righteousness.
