Devotional Portion: Psalm 5:1-3

Give ear to my words, O Lord,

Consider my meditation.

Give heed to the voice of my cry,

My King and my God,

For to You I will pray.

My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord;

In the morning I will direct it to You,

And I will look up.

This Psalm is a prayer by the Psalmist David.

Everyone longs to have someone to listen to them. And when we have none to share our burden, we bear it within and may burst out at someone when a favorable situation comes or we may move to a state of depression.

David, in this Psalm, requests GOD to listen to his words, meditation and to the voice of his cry. David was a man of prayer and his prayers were focused on GOD alone. “For unto Thee will I pray.” Often our prayers are filled with our needs, requests, petitions or emotions alone, and as a result we forget to focus on GOD and to seek His face. “Very much of so-called prayer, both public and private, is not unto God. In order that a prayer should be really unto God, there must be a definite and conscious approach to God when we pray; we must have a definite and vivid realization that God is bending over us and listening as we pray.” (Torrey)

“For unto Thee will I pray!”

David was confident that he was not spending his time and effort in getting solace from any mortal, but only from Him alone, who has promised us to give His divine peace.

My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord;

In the morning I will direct it to You,

And I will look up.

Prayer in the morning is so important that we submit the day ahead into His mighty hands. It may be so easy for us to miss this moment of prayer due to our hectic schedules, but when GOD is the love of our life, prayer (communication) will happen automatically. Nothing in this world should hinder us from spending time with Him and if the things of this world holds a grip on your spiritual life, you need to check your relationship with GOD and have to restore your relationship with Him. A Christian should have a heart to stick to Jesus no matter what happens in their life. “But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”” (John 6:68).

Prepare your altar before the LORD and submit yourself before starting your day. Let prayer be the lamp that lightens your path. May His word be the guide and may His angels guard your ways.

Reflection: Stay connected to GOD in prayer. A prayer less Christian is a clueless Christian, whereas a prayer-filled Christian has His guidance to move on victoriously.
