Devotional Portion: ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭10:5-7‬

His ways are always prospering; Your judgments are far above, out of his sight; As for all his enemies, he sneers at them. He has said in his heart, “I shall not be moved; I shall never be in adversity.” His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; Under his tongue is trouble and iniquity.

The psalmist is protesting against God as he saw the wicked prospering in the earth. They are not just prosperous but they think that the judgement of the LORD is far above and out of their site. The psalmist is sharing his pain with the Lord rather than sharing with his comfort group and sinning against the Lord. He was pouring out his concerns.

The wicked think so as they are confident in the wide path through which they are going. Matthew 7:13 says, “for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.” The majority is enticed by the fancies of this world. They are comfortable with fame, wealth and prosperity. They look high, but not high enough to see the judgement that is about to fall on them. They think that the word of God is futile as their eyes are blind to the truth. They are exploiting the grace of the LORD and interpret it as His negligence to their sin-filled life.

He has said in his heart, “I shall not be moved; I shall never be in adversity.”

The pride in the wicked men’s heart is making him think that he is immutable and omnipotent. They are unaware of the day of the LORD. “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling.” Proverbs 16:18. Haman’s pride led to his destruction.

His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; Under his tongue is trouble and iniquity.

The wicked carry three venoms- cursing, deceit and oppression. The curse against both God and men; they entrap the needy and the weak: and they oppress the upright with fraud.

Just as venomous creatures carry a sack of poison under their tongue, the wicked carry trouble and iniquity. They spontaneously attack and devour the community and tries to overpower them.

John Trapp quoted, “Cursing men are cursed men.”

Be watchful of the wicked and submit your concerns to God. Let God take care of them.

Reflection: Check whether we are walking through the narrow path that leads to through the narrow gate.
