Reading Portion: 1 Kings 19:21
“So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his servant.” Vs.21.
As a next step to his decision, Elisha took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. This shows his commitment to his call that he was ready to give up his own priorities. When JESUS called Peter, he left everything. Yet, he had a few things that held him back in his ministry. As a minister of GOD, do we have anything that still hinders and holds us back, in the progress of our ministry? It can be an ungodly relationship; it can be the love of self or it can be something that we love more than GOD. Identify the things that are already taking you off His track and even the ones can take you off from His track. Pray about it and say No! Saying no may cause troubles in your life. People may call you unworthy or a person who has no integrity, but count your call of ministry higher than all other things. The missionaries of the LORD abandoned everything for CHRIST’s sake.
When GOD appoints people in your life, they will be ready to take up the passion that you have. Elijah had a simple lifestyle. And when the cloak of Elijah came on Elisha, we can assume that his lifestyle was also imparted onto Elisha. When we choose our partners, pray that they will have the heart to take up the burden we possess.
Taking up our cross and following CHRIST gives happiness, when we are ready to give up our desires and plans at the foot of the Cross. Though you feel like you are alone just like Elijah, proceed with courage, GOD will bring the right people for you! Keep up the pace in the ministry.
