Devotional Portion: Psalm 11:2-3

For look! The wicked bend their bow, They make ready their arrow on the string, That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart. If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?

The friends is giving advice to David, “for look.” It was a very well-meant advice, but it was ungodly. As we discussed in the previous devotion, we must discern the advice of the people around us. Similar advice can be seen when Jesus said about His death on the cross. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!” But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offence to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” Matthew 16:22-23. Peter was speaking out of his concern and love for Jesus, but it was not the plan of God and he spoke as motivated by the devil. We must understand the manipulation of the devil and must know how to speak up to them with courage in the LORD.

If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?

‭For a country, law and justice are the foundation; for family love and loyalty are the foundation; and for friendship, trust and confidence are the foundation. David had to flee in fear of King Saul as Saul was leading the country in unrighteousness. His brothers had no love for him and his friends are prompting him to move away from the call of the LORD?. For an ungodly person, this could be the end of everything. But for a righteous, there is hope in the Lord always.

“He will use such plausible logic, that unless we once for all assert our immovable trust in Jehovah, he will make us like the timid bird which flies to the mountain whenever danger presents itself.” (Spurgeon)

Reflection: Trust in the LORD at all times. His arms are beneath us even when you see the foundations crumbling.
