“I settled for something less, which was recommended by others than what I actually deserved because I thought anything less was better than nothing!” Many must have gone through such phases when one must have encountered moments that gave indication as being the one with no significance or purpose and replaceable: days that have struck oneself like the word ‘Okay’ which in-fact is ok, even without ‘ay’.
The term worthless means devoid of benefit, insignificant, ineffective, and defective or not useful in any way. A pot which is broken in dozens of pieces is worthless. Now the term ‘worth less’ should mean the same thing, but it doesn’t, ironically! Worth less means having a value not as great as, comparatively- This used vehicle is worth less than this one, since it has major potential problems.
If from a handful of ₹10 coins, someone is asked which one is worth the most. Hopefully, they will say “All worth the same!” Even if you argue with them that you think the shiniest ones are worth more than the dirty or old worn coins or ask them how he/she knows they are each worth the same. A prompt response will be “they are all ₹10 coins” and that each one is marked with the value of “₹10.” Thereby no matter however old, filthy or tarnished they may appear its value isn’t lost. Similarly, as these coins are the same, we as God’s highest creation are priceless; we are His masterpiece, (Ephesians 2:10) created “in God’s image”, (Genesis 1:27) His possession, (Titus 2:14) and above all, for us, He gave Himself as a ransom (1 Timothy 2:6). Though through the first man- Adam the image of God was tarnished, we have been redeemed by the last Adam- Jesus Christ. Our worth isn’t determined by the labels we get based on the car we drive or the career we pursue or the clothes we wear nor by the latest achievements or records of missteps. In fact, it was established once and for all, not by the perishable things such as silver or gold but through the precious blood of Christ.
At every age, a Christian can inspire others. However, a young Christian can be more impactful to others, since this is a stage in our lives when the pressure is greater to conform to the tide. A time in life when it seems, the most important thing is fitting in, cause if not, then the world marks us, as unimportant as a white crayon, but the bravery is in deciding to standout. When our culture is so contended in tromping all over each other in the pursuit of creating something that gives them a feeling of self-importance, we shouldn’t be leaning on to those self-esteem theories that asks us to spellbind ourself up each day with an “I am somebody, I am somebody” mantra for they can only propel us to have a sense of greatness about our latest achievements.
A Christian is in-congruent to the worldly principles, we need is a faith that is stronger and a view of ourselves that’s not confined, just on our greatest achievements or on other people accepting or rejecting us. Our confidence in Him should be our perspective that sustains us through this life while preparing ourselves for His coming. A Christian youth shouldn’t be like a pressure-sensitive adhesive- a Sellotape, which inherently is intended for sticking, sealing, attaching or mending, yet its sole purpose is disrupted and ruined, when dirt, grease, oil or mud gets adhered to it. A Christian ought rather be, a magnet that attracts only metallic objects, also a magnet will certainly point in a north-south direction despite being drooped or suspended in any direction. Henceforth we as Christians need to stick to His thoughts about us without allowing the labels of this society to distort our worth: Restrain our focus to drift off of Him.
Acknowledge there will always be someone who won’t understand your true worth. Don’t let that be you!
