Devotional Portion: Psalm 12:8

The wicked prowl on every side, When vileness is exalted among the sons of men.

David returns to the first statement again as he concludes this psalm. Even though the word of God is active, and could cleanse the people who are ready to accept it, the wicked will choose the way of destruction for sure. They prowl on every side and they exalt vileness among the sons of men.  “Here we return to the fount of bitterness, which first made the psalmist run to the wells of salvation, namely, the prevalence of wickedness. When those in power are vile, their underlings will be no better.” (Spurgeon).

The psalms end not on a depressing note, but David was thinking in a realistic way to detail the things happening around the world. Though the things are not favourable, a child of God has hope that the words of God will be “yes” and “amen” and He will help them in times of trials.
